sausages

JJ had a good breakfast today of some oatibix, toast, banana and grapes. For lunch he had 2 whole crumpets, a big chunk of cheese and some grapes and he loved every mouthful!

Tea tonight was cumberland sausage, mashed potato, cauliflower and carrots which he really enjoyed although he wasn't in a carrot mood tonight! This was followed by some stewed dried apricots which I blended and mixed with natural yogurt. He loved it - I couldn't get it to him quick enough. He is so good with yogurt now - hardly makes any mess (unlike the yogurt explosions when we first started!) he licks it off the spoon and the hands his spoon back for another go. He also likes to try to get it with the spoon himself but he isn't too good....yet! He is actually so much less messy in general than he was - I only realise this when I look back at the (thousands of) old photos!

An exciting new breakfast and lunch

Will post the video soon when I have charged the battery!

A bare cupboard forced the invention of a new breakfast today which luckily was a big success. I made some readybrek with less milk than it states so it was extra thick, I then mashed some banana and mixed it in. It was thick enough for JJ to messily scoop up and eat - he loved it (see the video!). I only made a half quantity as I expected him to reject it like he has done with normal ready brek, and he polished it off so quickly I had to hastily make some more (which he didnt eat in the end even though it was thicker and much better!).

Lunch was another big success! We tried mini pittas filled with grated carrot and grated cheese mixed with a bit of cumin and toasted. He loved them and ate 2 full ones. A good tip is to buy a pack of 10 mini pittas and freeze them indivdually. They defrost really quickly and I used to throw half a pack away as we didn't get through them. This way we always have some to hand! He also had the leftover banana readybrek mixed with some creamy greek yogurt - yumm - he loved it! It would make quite a substantial dessert for those days when he doesn't seem to have had much and is only keen on dessert!

Tea was baked cod, broccoli and pasta and pesto. He enjoyed this and ate a fair amount but not loads due to his huge lunch I think!

He also enjoyed a flying visit from Nanna and Grandad before bed - he sends you both a big sloppy kiss! xxx

Lunch with friends and comedy carrots!

JJ's daddy gave him the usual breakfast today.

Lunch was lovely as we had some of our friends over so JJ sat with the 8 of us and had some homemade burgers (lamb and mint and beef burgers) - he wasn't into them but we enjoyed them! He also had some hummus on toast - a big hit - he generally sucked the hummus off and spat out the toast though (continuing yesterday's game!). He had some nectarine and blueberries for pud.

Tea tonight was lentil mash, sugarsnap peas, baby corn and carrots. He was very vocal all through tea and had some very funny carrot moments which I captured on video. They really didn't want to be eaten!!!

For pud I nuked some blueberries in the microwave for 1 min and mixed them with greek yogurt. He quite enjoyed them but prefers his blueberries au naturale!

Shepherd's Pie and rice!

JJ had shredded wheat, melon and blueberries for breakfast today. He is getting good at picking up blueberries!

For lunch I cooked some rice which I then whizzed briefly in my mini blender (the ones that attach onto a hand blender - sooo useful) and I rolled it into logs. It held together brilliantly but JJ turned his nose up - I don't think he likes bland things!

I mixed the other half with some mashed mango but this was a bit sloppy so I added some dessicated coconut and baby rice to firm it up. I put it in the fridge and forgot about it - its still sat there!

So he had his rice logs, some cheese and some mango (lots of mango!). I was eating some left over shepherds pie for my lunch and he seemed rather interested (I hadn't given it to him as I didn't think he'd manage it) so I gave him some and he gobbled it up.

SO for tea tonight I gave JJ some shepherd's pie of his own - well he wouldn't even touch it. We had been into town and he just wanted to play so I let him and tried him again a bit later. He half heartedly had a bit (he loved it at lunch!). So I gave him some yogurt which he practically begged for then decided he did want his shepherds pie, and the rest of his yogurt and an Organix rusk! In the end he had quite a bit to eat.

Spiced squash

Breakfast was some wheatabix today which I mushed up with milk and let him feed him self like I do with yogurts. He managed ok but wasn't too impressed and when I put some shredded wheat on his tray he gobbled them up so I guess he prefers them. He also had some banana which as always had a mediocre reception.

Lunch was some steamed carrot, courgette and potato which he really wasn't interested in but did eat some. He had hiccoughs which didn't help and he has a horrid cold so I out it down to this. He has a habit at the minute of squishing food repeatedly in his hand and watching himself do it (all learning I guess) which is what happened to most of lunch.

Tea was a big success. JJ had some of our spiced butternut squash casserole which was flavoured with cumin, coriander and turmeric and he loved it (me and his dad thought the squash was a bit bland!). He also had a yogurt for pudding and had almost the whole pot (well not counting what was smeared over him and his highchair!).

He was also very close to eating some squash out of his palm.

Yummy yoghurt

Do you think he likes it?

More please mummy!

Butter wouldn't melt

Shredded wheat for breakfast again with some mango. JJ had some more pasta for lunch with some bread and philly which received an average reception. But then we moved on the the yogurt - well - he loved it! We loaded the spoon and he grabbed it from us and sucked it in and spread it all over his face! He had the Rachel's Little Organics which seem to have no junk in them and are not too sweet (no sugar). The pictures speak for them selves. Me and hubby had to do paper, scissors, stone to decided who cleaned him up - in the end it was a 2 person job!
