Woops! Sorry we're late!

Sorry for the delay but we have been back home ot visit the grandparents and couldn't post while we were away. Think I can remember...

Tuesday - usual breakfast, then some yummy spinach, carrot and cheese muffins which I baked - sound gross but tasted lovely and JJ had 1 and a half for his lunch with some fruit.

For tea he had mackerel and cheese tarts and grated carrot - he was not impressed by the carrot. He would go to pick it up and then pull a disgusted face, drop it and eat something else.

Wednesday we were at JJ's nanna and grandad's house - usual breakfast, lunch was another muffin with some fruit - he wasn't very interested in either. For tea he had pasta and cheese sauce - another of his favourites but again he wasn't very interested. He did enjoy a few grapes though and managed to drink from his doidy on his own (and then threw water all over himself which me and his Nanna found highly amusing!).

Thursday was again not very successful on the food front but we had a lovely time at JJ's aunty Kelly's wedding! He had some cheesy mash, broccoli and carrot for lunch - he loved the broccoli. He had very little for tea as it was bits and bobs from the buffet but he was more interested in playing with his cousins - never mind!

Quesadillas!

JJ had his usual breakfast.

We enjoyed a lovely lunch outside in the sunshine. We had quesadillas (like a taosted tortilla sandwich - wil post the recipe in the recipe section) - JJ had double cheese and spinach and me and dh had pepperoni, cheese and tomato. I wasn't sure JJ would manage them too well but he thought they were great and gobbled lots up. We tried one of my lovingly made smoothie lollies on him again and once again he refuses to hold the tissue and so gets frozen hands which makes him cry - oh well me and DH will have to eat them!

Tea was a bit of a rushed affair as we were out buying new camping gear and trying on back carriers for JJ. He had some fresh beef ravioli and I whizzed up some leftover aubergine from yesterday to make a quick sauce. He sucked them to death but ate very little. He did eat a WHOLE nectarine (I was very excited by this!), some banana (although he seems to enjoy just biting this into chunks), a biscuit and a baby rice cake - which he put in whole but eventully managed to eat it!

Skills update!

JJ now moves bits of food out of his way in order to get what he wants. He sees a piece he wants and will do anything to get at it even if other pieces are nearer/easier. He uses a two handed approach to trickier stuff - grasping it in one hand and supporting it (aka shoving it in) with the other. He swaps food from one hand to the other to get a better grip of it. He put the little bits in his palm back down then pincer grips them to eat them. Such a clever boy! Doesn't seem 5 mins since it was a major just to get food in his mouth.

Malt loaf monster!

JJ had a good breakfast again - he seems to have taken to breakfasts now.

For lunch he had some philly on toast with tomatoes and melon. We usually give him chip shapes or small chunks of melon but today gave him a big wedge with the skin off. He loved it this way and slowly ate the lot and then had some more.

Tea was rather funny - we were having aubergine casserole with couscous and so we gave JJ the same. He found the cous cous very interesting and a little frustrating so I had a brainwave of mixing it with some philly to make it a bit more clumpy and sticky which helped (however DH decided he like his this way too!). He quite enjoyed the casserole and was gobbling up chunks of aubergine, pepper and mushroom. He did find it difficult to shovel it in like he does pasta though. He made such a mess - and going for the 'messiest dinner in blw history' record we decided to top it off with some yogurt - well received as usual.
He still seemed hungry so he had a slice of malt loaf - and just like Eric and bananaman (for those children of the 80's among you) when JJ ate the malt loaf he turned into a growling malt loaf monster (see the very cute video) - a sign, I think, that he liked it.

He was so incredibly messy he was plonked straight into the bath with his dad!

He is eating sooo well at the moment - it is lovely and for those of you out there doing blw and worrying if your LO is having enough - they do get there I promise! It can seem hard at first when they seem to eat so little but stick with it. (the question is will I remember this pearl of wisdom next time he goes off his food a bit...probably not!)

3 good meals

JJ had the usual for breakfast but today preferred the good old shredded wheat over the oatibix. He has mastered the technique of noisily sucking out all the milk before gobbling them up.

Lunch was leftover pasta bolognese from yesterday which was munched up with the same enthusiasm and left him looking like an oompa loompa (but without the green hair!). He followed this with various fruits.

For tea JJ tried something new - salmon - which he had with the ever popular broccoli and a cheesy jacket potato. He gobbled the lot much to the disappointment of his dad who wanted more! He ate some salmon but was not overly impressed - he much preferred the broccoli and potato. He followed this with some delicious honeydew melon. He has only bf twice today (plus a 30 second drink) so he must be filling his tum with food.
Other News:
JJ is very close to crawling - here he is today showing of his 'all fours' technique - rocking backwards and forwards no less! He is sooo cute!

Lunch in the sun, more pasta and a lolly!

JJ was somewhat irritated by the piece of bread stuck to the end of his nose!

trying to pick up the teensiest tiniest piece of onion

Look at my lovely lolly!

JJ's daddy was in charge of the usual breakfast.

Lunch was lovely as we all had lunch outside at our new table (hastily erected 30 seconds before lunch). JJ seems to enjoy eating outside - he had some pitta and philly, lettuce, tomato, apricot and nectarine oh and some new potato. As usual he had some but not a huge amount. Getting to be quite a pattern at lunch time.

For tea JJ had some pasta bolognese - it was supposed to be spaghetti (we were quite looking forward to seeing how he dealt with spaghetti!) but we had run out so pasta it was - again! Anyway he loved it - I'm sure he's Italian at heart! he had quite a lot of the meat too which is good for iron.

I made some smoothie lollies earlier in the day (whizzed up 2 plums, 1 nectarine, 2 apricots, a banana, a pot of yogurt and some milk and poured into moulds) and JJ's daddy had one for pudding which JJ had a suck of and loved so we gave him his own. He really liked it but got a bit cross when his hands got cold and I think he got brain freeze from shoving it in his mouth! He enjoyed it though and quite healthy really!

A whole lot of pasta!!

JJ had quite a good breakfast today - Oatibix are definitely his favourite at the minute.

For lunch JJ had some veggie nuggets (the last of my stash), an apricot, some ham and some tomato. He barely ate a thing - I put this down to his teeth and needing the loo half way through.

He made up for it this tea time though as he munched his way through a mountain of pasta with cheese sauce (I froze a couple of portions of sauce from the last lot I made and it worked really well). He had almost as much as I would eat! He also had a fair bit of broccoli and some carrot. He even licked out the bowl (see the video - so cute). This must be his favourite meal.

Sorry it's late! exciting discovery....

Can't remember Tuesday now so it can't have been very exciting food wise - I didn't post as I was out (OMG!) watching Hairspray - total chick flic and was brilliant.

Anyway yesterday (no excuses I'm afraid was just totally shattered and couldn't be bothered to turn on the computer!), was usual breakfast. For lunch we went for a picnic in the country park near us as the weather was so glorious. JJ had some cheese straws which went down very well, some cheese and a selection of fruit (and a sneaky bit of mummy's ice cream). Not much got eaten as there were far too many interesting people to watch but he enjoyed it! Tea was baby jacket potatoes with cheese, peas and fish cakes. He didn't really eat much but we found his first tooth which could explain why - very exciting!

I couldn't find the camera so no photos I'm afraid.
