roast

On Monday he had some swwet potato and veggies at some point and also watermelon. For tea he had cheesy pitta, butterbeans and watermelon. He absolutely loved the butterbeans!!

Tuesday he had fruit toast for breakfast as he was feeling poorly and I thought something new would help. In the end he had some oatibix too but not much.

Lunch was a huge hit as he had mashed up boiled egg with a bit of mayo spread on slices of french bread. He absolutely loved it! He was licking off the egg and then gobbling up the bread. A big success!

For tea he had roast dinner - lamb, roasties, mash carrots and broccoli and then had cinnamon apples for pudding. He loves roast dinner. Despite his horrid cough he has been eating really well. Probably needs the energy as he wil not sit down and insists on standing at every oppertunity!

Malt loaf monster!

JJ had a good breakfast again - he seems to have taken to breakfasts now.

For lunch he had some philly on toast with tomatoes and melon. We usually give him chip shapes or small chunks of melon but today gave him a big wedge with the skin off. He loved it this way and slowly ate the lot and then had some more.

Tea was rather funny - we were having aubergine casserole with couscous and so we gave JJ the same. He found the cous cous very interesting and a little frustrating so I had a brainwave of mixing it with some philly to make it a bit more clumpy and sticky which helped (however DH decided he like his this way too!). He quite enjoyed the casserole and was gobbling up chunks of aubergine, pepper and mushroom. He did find it difficult to shovel it in like he does pasta though. He made such a mess - and going for the 'messiest dinner in blw history' record we decided to top it off with some yogurt - well received as usual.
He still seemed hungry so he had a slice of malt loaf - and just like Eric and bananaman (for those children of the 80's among you) when JJ ate the malt loaf he turned into a growling malt loaf monster (see the very cute video) - a sign, I think, that he liked it.

He was so incredibly messy he was plonked straight into the bath with his dad!

He is eating sooo well at the moment - it is lovely and for those of you out there doing blw and worrying if your LO is having enough - they do get there I promise! It can seem hard at first when they seem to eat so little but stick with it. (the question is will I remember this pearl of wisdom next time he goes off his food a bit...probably not!)

Pancakes and pastries

Exciting day today on the food front...

Breakfast was same old shredded wheat and some banana (not much)

For lunch I made some mini pancakes. I added some apple puree to the mix and to half of it I also added some grated cheese. The apple ones didn't taste of apple at all but the cheesey ones were nice. JJ gobbled them up! He also had some melon.

For tea I made some puff pastry tarts using some of the veg sauce from yesterday, cheese and tomato and apple and cinnamon. He couldn't get them in quick enough but at one point he had so much in his mouth he didn't know what to do with it and just cried! He always stuffs more and more in when he likes something - I guess he'll learn. He also had some more melon as he loves it!

He was in such a mess after tea (partly due to enthusiastic munching and partly because he pulled off his bib and wrestled me off when I tried to put it back on!) that I had had to shower him off! He did quite like that though.

Video footage!

Click here to see video footage of JJ eating melon (excuse my stupid 'baby voice'...I don't normally sound like this - honest!)

Mess, mess and more mess!

They started off round and lovely looking - honest!
Slippery little suckker!
Mmmmm
He resorted to sucking bits off his bib!

I got a little adventurous today and made some potato, spinach and carrot rosties. Well JJ thought they were wonderfully squidgible and did just that. Bless him he couldn't understand why they wouldn't go into his mouth as easily and his regualr firm 'chip' shaped things. I thought they might be a bit firmer than they were. He liked them but found it quite frustrating to eat although I think eating some messy food is good for him (perhaps just not for me!). He kept getting little bits off his hands then sucking his thumb thinking he had got some food in.

He also had melon for pud and really loved it (and found it much easier to eat). He just munched and munched saying 'mmmmm' all the while and smiling! He loved it!
