Scrambled eggs and food flinging

Weetabix

Sweet potato and bean burgers - recipe on the blog!

Sunday was the usual breakfast but JJ didn't eat any of it - he just wanted to throw it all on the floor. We have never really had this problem with JJ before and I thought we had avoided it but he found it hilarous today!

Lunch was scrambled egg and french bread toast (I find he much prefers toasted french bread to normal bread and will eat much more). He quite liked it but ended up throwing it about again. He had some pear for pud.

Tea was veggies and my made up sweet potato and kidney bean burgers (recipe on the blog - see links). Once again most of it went on the floor - he didn't really have an appetite but enjoyed what he did eat. He also discovered the cup holder on his tray - it has always been there but he hasn't noticed it before - he enjoyed putting his toast and pear in there and taking it out again to eat!

A day by the river

After a teeny piece of my cake!

Today we had a very odd day as JJ's Daddy was racing (triathlon) and so we went along to cheer him on. We had to leave the house at 6:00 so breakfast was taken on a park bench by the river! He had the usual oatibix and shredded wheat but didn't have a great deal as he was too busy people watching!

Lunch was at a cafe by the river after the race. They only did sandwiches so JJ had some brown bread and butter, a bit of lettuce and some other bits and bobs. Not great really - we thought we would be able to get him something more substantial.

Tea was baked sweet potato and butter, cheese omlette and watermelon. He seemed to really enjoy his tea.

JJ's daddy did very well in his race - coming 83rd out of 400+ and beating his last year's time by 8 mins - well done !!!

Lunch? Cherries

Peek-a-boo!

JJ enjoyed a nice breakfast before we set off on our LOOOOOONG journey.

I cannot for the life of me remember what he had for lunch (I am writing this a day late) so it can;t have been very remarkable.

Tea was roasted parsnip and sweet potato, and a spinach, cheese and carrot muffin which I had defrosted (they freeze very well). He quite enjoyed his tea but has a new favourite game which is chew and suck each bit to death and then spit/pull it out of his mouth. He has just learned to do this and seems determined to practice it whenever possible. He had some nice cherries for pud but wasn't too impressed.

Sweet potato cake, more sleep eating!

JJ had the usual breakfast and ate quite a bit.

For lunch JJ had a sweet potato cake (left over baked sweet potato mashed up, coated in breadcrumbs and fried in butter) which he loved. He also had the first of my home grown courgettes, a million blueberries and some watermelon. He is loving blueberries and watermelon at the minute - it is officially the biggest and juiciest watermelon ever and as soon as he picks a chunk up it runs down his arm!

For tea JJ had some philly on toast, half a cinnamon and raisin bagel, some vanilla yogurt and more fruit - a bit of a hotch potch really but he enjoyed most of it but was tired again and had another go at sleeping while eating! It is the funniest and cutest thing to watch.

2 tired meals - 2 different outcomes! Fab video

This has got to be JJ's cutest video yet - my sleepy little boy!

Back home and back to normal JJ had a good breakfast of the usual today after a little lie in till 7.30.

Lunch today was chicken and salad with some crusty bread. However JJ missed his morning nap as he was late up and we went food shopping so he was too tired to eat much and just got very upset and we cut lunch short. I gave him a rice pudding when he woke up before we dashed to story time at the library - he loved it!

Tea today was bean and veg hot pot with baked sweet potato, and watermelon and blueberries. JJ was really enjoying his tea and making lots of 'mmmm' sounds but then started actually falling asleep whilst eating. I am sure he was sleep eating at one point. So another meal cut short today but he wasn't upset this time - just couldn't keep his eyes open! This has to be the cutest video ever!

I think JJ may have another tooth on its way as he is not eating very well and has eczema round his mouth which appeared shortly before a tooth last time - it is soooo frustrating that he was eating so well and so enthusiastically and then he takes 2 steps back - ah well guess that's babies for you! I know he will start chomping down his food again when he is ready.

Sweet potato and mango

JJ had shredded wheat and banana for breakfast and roasted sweet potato and mango for lunch although he wasn't too interested in his lunch today. I hate to see perfectly good mango go to waste on the floor - grrrrr. Can't be too mad at him though - he has slept through the past 2 nights!

Revenge of the sweet potato!

Well - the title says it all. We have had 3 sweet potato nappies before 8 am today!! Is it sad that I was a little excited to see how much he ate! That boy can swallow some pretty big chunks of cucumber too! How do I remain so cheery at such an early start and the prolific poo production I hear you ask......well JJ slept through for only the second time ever last night ....hurrah!

More sweet potato....roasted this time!

I know .....again...... but I bough a bag of them! I am also a bit worried that I am giving JJ too many different things so though I would keep a constant (not sure why really as he seems to love it but hey-ho - I'm always worrying about something!)

Well I roasted them today in a little olive oil and it was much more successful than boiling. They had a sort of skin and that meant they stayed more in one piece and weren't crushed as easily with those chubby little hands which can squeeze very hard when he gets excited! He was able to suck/gum them for longer and enjoyed it immensely (again don't think very much was eaten but I'm pretty sure that's not the point just yet as mummy's milk is giving him all the goodness he needs still). At one point he had some in each hand and was trying to get both in at once! He also had some roasted courgette which he tried very hard with. I think I cut it too thin though and they just bent and flopped all over the place and there is only so far he can contort his neck to try and get it in before giving in and favouring the sweet potato. I may try again soon with bigger chunks.

He makes such a funny face when he actually swallows a bit - kind of like the face I pull when I have to swallow medicine...but he keeps coming back for more. Tomorrow I think I will give the sweet potato a miss and try regular potato.

If any wise BLWers read this could you tell me if you think I am introducing too many foods too quickly or not? Not sure why I have this paranoia but I do!

JJ had some sweet potato again for lunch today with some pear which I cooked a little to make it slightly soft. It didn't go down as well as yesterday though as I think he was a bit tired (had tried for 1/2 to get him to sleep but he refused!).

He really loved the pear but they are only small ones and very quickly the pieces are too small for him to eat which got him very frustrated! I did try pealing a whole raw pear and cut some notches out to help him grip. He did suck on this but was unimpressed with my notches - preferring instead to wedge it between his chest and high chair and bend down to suck. Again this led to lots of frustration for my tired little boy!

Ah well - will try again tomorrow!

Sweet potato success

Today we tried some boiled sweet potato (must dig out the steamer - lazy mummy!). It was approached with interest by JJ who was still on a high from the broccoli! He demolished lots of it although I am not sure how much was actually eaten. He does worry me as he instantly bites a bit off then shoves more in and I worry he will fill his mouth so much he won't remember to spit it out. Oh well - he survived and seemed to enjoy the experience. I also gave him a baby rice cake. This was a bit scary as it seemed to get eaten but he didn't seem to chew it! I then mushed up a bit of the potato and spread that on for him which he seemed to like (it helped it stick to his fingers so he didn't drop it!)

He also had his old favourite cucumber which he chews on mostly because it feels nice on his gums. I love the squeaky noise it makes as he chews!

I only managed one picture as the battery ran out!
